Event Schedule
Thursday
10 AM -- We will tour the Starbird National Rod & Custom Car Hall of Fame Museum in Afton, OK. It is a little bit of a drive (about 43 miles from the hotel), but we think it is going to be WELL worth the trip. Members of the hall of fame include George Barris, Chip Foose, Boyd Coddington, Darryl Starbird, and Ed Roth. That will give you an idea of the quality of cars you will see there.
* Lunch on your own in Afton or cruise back to Joplin to eat at one of the many local restaurants.
* The 2nd annual MCG Bracket Nationals and unlimited T&T at MO-KAN Dragway from 4pm until 8pm. The track is going to open the gates early so we can get there and unload our cars ahead of time (3:30 or so)
Friday
In the morning, we will take a short cruise along historic Route 66 and visit some local attractions along the way.
9:30 AM - Assemble to leave hotel and drive to Joplin Museum complex in Shifferdecker Park for 10 AM Tour (Route 66 museum and mineral museum). Mining was a large part of the history of many of the towns in the area, and there are a number of mineral museums in various towns.
* 11:00 AM - 1 PM Lunch on your own in Joplin. We will meet back at Shifferdecker Park and depart from there as a group around 1 PM
* We will stop for a visit and photo shoot at a restored gas station in Galena, KS. It is the home of the truck that was the inspriation for the Tow-mater character in the movie cars (We wouldn't have believed it either, but there is proof. :) ) There are a number of old buildings right around the gas station that inspired other things in the film.
* Last official stop on the cruise (unless you want to continue into Oklahoma) is Baxter Springs, KS. There are numerous historic buildings within a two block stretch of Route 66 in Baxter Springs.
6 PM - group dinner at a restaurant near the hotel
8 PM - Club meeting at the hotel.
Saturday
Head out early and head to Landreth Park for a full day of activities.
Car show (judged and non-judged) and cookout. The cookout was a blast in 2007.
Someone was overheard saying “it felt
like a family reunion”.
Nightly
Hanging
out with your fellow MCG members in
the hotel parking lot swapping stories, bench racing, checking
out the cars.
Our first national event was a tremendous success, let's make this one even bigger!
